1/24th Scale Small Teardrop Trailer

Post  Dakota_in_the_sky on Wed Dec 30, 2009 8:30 am

This is a styrene flat sheet model kit. It's like scratchbuilding, but the parts are already cut out. It's a great project for someone who wants to learn to scratchbuild, but has never tried. You need to supply the fenders, wheels, axle, glass, and interior if you want.

The price is $4.99 plus $7 shipping in the U.S.
It's available on ebay as well.

The first step is to peel off the protective paper from both sides

Then snap off the parts from the sprue trees

When the two parts have an equal space all the way around, glue the two together with liquid cement.

The rear is slightly too long. It'll be taken care of in the next step.

The rear hatch is glued in place. If you want to add an interior, the rear hatch can be used as a template to cut a hatch in brass.

A tongue can be scratchbuilt from thick strip styrene (not included)

Or, a tongue can be taken from a kit. This one is from AMT Ertl's 1941 Ford Woodie.

With the body done, it has been painted silver. This is the highboy version, but you can add your favorite fenders.
